If I could give this restaurant a "0" stars I would. First off let's start with the fact that I am from New England and visiting on vacation. We went out to have a nice sushi dinner, which turned out to be the worst experience I have ever seen, and coming from a waitress myself, that means ALOT! I'm going to start this off with, it took the server 15 minutes to greet the table, followed by the waiter himself not giving a damn about us.It took my aunt 20 minutes to get a diet coke. That wasn't a big deal. What was the big deal, was when the waiter brought over our check without even serving us 3 of the sushi dishes, yet kept pushing the Mai Tais? Hmmmm funny how that works. When we asked to speak to the female manager, she pretended to write our complaints down, and said she would be right back. Now normally we are not people who would look to get money off our check, but this deserved it. Instead of the manager coming back, she sent over a server names Shawn or Shaun.... To talk to us, maybe to mediate the situation, who knows. All I know is he was probably worse than our original waiter. He proceeded to tell us he was from MA, and that we were "massholes". He proceeded to tell us we had Mai Tai, for days! Keep in mind there were 9 of us and 8 had a Mai tai, so how that means for days beats me. He then proceeded to tell us that he works 60 hours a week, and I can't even write the rest because I wanted to laugh in his face for thinking this was the right way to win over guests. Keep in mind the manager NEVER came over to talk to us, only offered us $10 gift card for the next time we come back. Hmmm did you forget we were from Boston? I'm not saying this to put the restaurant down, but if ANY of you get these two guys as your waiter, I feel sorry for you. The manager needs a reality check on how to run her restaurant, our waiter needs a refresher course on how to serve, and Shawn needs a refresher course on customer service. This place needs to get their act together, or there will be a whole lot of problems for years to come!

Ok I don't know why some of the people on here are critical of this place. Is this a high end Japanese place, no , but for decent sushi in this area this is good and very close to everything

Atmosphere here is cute. Located in the publix shopping mall next to Ross. Good lunch specials for 10,11, & 12. Fresh sushi : has the spicy tuna and Alaskan roll. Willing to do a special order because of an allergy. Service was super fast. Would definitely come back.

I ordered the calamari and filet mignon at the hibachi grill, along with a Japanese beer. Within an hour or so of eating my food I began to get very sick. I'm not sure what I got food poisoning from, but that was the only place I ate or drank that night. I called the restaurant and politely let them know what happened so nobody else gets sick, and they just told me they serve everything fresh and that I "shouldn't worry". Needless to say I'm not reassured, since 24 hours later I'm still quite sick. I recommend avoiding this place.

We have eaten here several times and always had great food and a great time. We have even held my daughter's birthday party here.

I am warning you, DO NOT eat at this establishment! We had a reservation for a group of 6 at 7:45, members of our party arrived 10 minutes early and were given a pager. Around 8:15 we went to check on our status, the restaurant assured us we would be seated soon. Unfortunately that still wasn't the case and we did not get our seats until 8:45-a full hour after our reservation time. Someone came to take our drink order along with a few other people that were sitting at our table. 10 minutes later the other patrons get their drinks and the lady takes off and never returns. We flag someone else down to reorder our drinks and this takes another 15 minutes. We sat forever waiting for someone to take our meal order and for the chef to finally arrive. The chef was nice but accidentally flung a piece of food into a friends drink. He ordered a new one, 15 minutes later he still hadn't received it and had to ask someone else. Staff was so rude and extremely inattentive. Normally I wouldn't even rate a restaurant on service because I know it can be hit or miss but our evening at this restaurant was really beyond ridiculous. I saw many other patrons complaining to management about their lack of service as well, so it's obviously a BIG problem. The food was so-so, that is until I found a hair in mine. I'm pretty easily grossed out by hair and I completely lose my appetite when this happens. I told a waitress who brought over a host, who grabbed it and argued with me that it was not a hair it was a vegetable. I looked at it again, I love to cook and I know what vegetable fibers look like-I also know what hairs look like. I told her this was definitely a hair, she continued to argue with me and brought over several other people to speculate. When we received our bill they had still charged us for the soup, salad, rice, and veggies I had eaten prior to finding the hair. They just took off for the meat which is where I found the hair. I've never heard of an establishment doing this-it's not like I wanted to lose my appetite after only 1 piece of filet mignon. To top it all off the food made a few members of our party very ill and they were sick the whole next day. This place really needs to be shut down.

I don't say it often but ewwww... When we got in the restaurant hostess, who btw was really nice, sitted us. We have received sushi menu where you need to mark desired items. Sashimi Sushi and Rolls. I had chosen salmon/avocado tuna/avocado cucumber/shrimp sushi. When I got my sushi it they were blend tastless rolls. Boring. I am sorry for bad review but those rolls were sloppy made.

Made reservations with a girl friend for opening. There was another party of 9 that had reservations at the same time. They were almost finished eating at their table when we finally walked out 45 minutes later. When they seated us at the table, (grill) I asked about whether they were going to wait to fill the table and they said only 10 minutes. I expressed my concern about a delay and not eating for an hour they assured me there would be no longer than a 15 minute wait. It was 45 minutes after before the chef came out. Not happy with the way they run things. This is not the first time. It happened a few months before but we waited. Not doing it again. Also, the sushi is pretty good but if you modify any rolls, there are serious charges added and nobody tells you that at the time.

Oh hail thee, for bringing me exceptional sushi in North Port. Yes, the prices are a bit high for sushi. However, they have the best sushi I have tasted since I left NJ. I only ordered take out so I can't note on the waitress service. However, the hostess looked like she was heading out to a Vegas night club more than to work in her super tight minidress. Wow, seriously?! However, the lady who brought me out my food was super nice and I made sure to give a tip (you should still tip on takeout people!) I'll definitely try to order here again, as I haven't tried all their special rolls that I want to yet. What an amazing line up for a semi-chain restaurant.

This was our first time at a Japanese steakhouse and it was delicious! We went for lunch and ordered from the lunch menu: chicken hibachi, steak hibachi, and a teriyaki shrimp box. The salads accompanying the meal were nothing great, but the rest of the food was wonderful! We were seated promptly by a very nice hostess, our server answered our questions nicely and kept our drinks filled. I was very impressed by the overall cleanliness of the restaurant and restrooms. We will definately be returning!

Great food but manager and our waitress were totally asinine . The made a mistake on my friends order after he ate one piece of a tuna roll. I asked the waitress and she acknowledged the mistake. She asked for the rest of the two pieces left on the plate. I asked what was she going to do with them. She said through them out. So my friend ate them. They charged us. I said that this was stupid because we had to wait another fifteen minutes for his order. The manager was not sympathetic because my friend finished the roll. I am a frequent patron and deserved better service.

Went there this evening with 2 others. Place was not crowded, no wait time. Server was prompt and friendly. Then it was like everything kicked into high gear. Drink order taken, drinks arrived quickly. Food order taken, food arrives, Hibachi chef starts his deal food cooked, still eating salad, kid arrives with to go boxes in middle of meal. Server "another drink???????" ok done with salad, soup. Here's your check no hurry. It was like hurry up and eat quick, quick, quick. Kumo's is really missing the boat on creating a nice dining experience. Food, however, was good and well prepared.

Purchased a 30.00 voucher for 15.00 from Local Flavor. Went for dinner by myself and a few minutes later a guy comes in that I knew and he joined me for dinner. When the waiter came to take our drink order, I handed him my voucher. My friend says, "oh I have one too". The waiter said there is a problem as we can not accept 2 vouchers as you are a party. I said what? The manager refused to honor my voucher because she said we were a party because we knew each other. I tried to reason with the manager but in the end I told her I was leaving and as I was walking out the manager said "Don't ever come back"

This place is not Japanese food. The owner and staff are phony Chinese dudes peddling stinky fish. Went twice. Second time got the teriyaki. Think combination cat, rubber, and salt on a dirty plate. Go to McDonald's. It's cleaner and you get what you pay for.

We went on a Friday night around 8pm and the service was so incredible SLOW! We did have a reservation and we were seated right away, but that's about where the speed ended. We had to ask our server multiple times to bring some silverware, to the point of sitting there waiting about 10 minutes after the salads came. It probably took 30-45 minutes to receive our sushi, and then another half hour or so for the hibachi meals to come. In regards to the food, the sushi was okay, but the salads were a disgrace and the miso soup was barely lukewarm. The salads are simply iceberg lettuce and even the seaweed salad comes perched atop an iceberg salad (ours even had part of the lettuce stem in it). Overall, it's way overpriced and the service isn't great. Save your money and go elsewhere.

This was the third time I have had dined here. 1st was good on the hibachi side, second was good on the sushi side but this was my last hibachi side visit. We ordered two rolls which were very good. When dinner was cooked, the chicken was overcooked, they changed the fried rice because somehow it tasted different ( wife agreed ) and they changed out the yucky yucky sauce to a ranch sauce. What Japanese restaurant has ranch as a part of the main course?? I will have no problem eating the sushi, but if you screw up a fried rice order, you may want to look at changing back.

Pleasant Surprise! I have been hearing about Kumo from everyone and I usually stay away from places that the appeal to the masses. I finally buckled under the peer pressure and gave it a try. I'm glad I did. Beautiful inside, fun atmosphere the food was Delicious and fresh. I actually went back and second time and it was just as great. Both our Hibachi Chefs were full of personality and really made each dinner feel like an event.

We just went for Sushi on a Monday night and it was excellent. Miso soup was average IMO but my friend enjoyed it. Salad was boring but the dressing was sooo good. Sushi was excellent especially the not fried ones like the dragon and spicy salmon. My 13 yo son loved his steak and banana split and they allowed him to order from the kids menu (10 y o and under). Overall all very expensive but you pay for the ambiance I guess. Not disappointed.
